Laughing Sky

After a few ‘false starts’ LAUGHING SKY formed in 1993 with DINO SORBELLO playing THEREMIN as well as the guitar, JAMIE ROSS ( also in the NYC band LIKE IT! ) on bass, and BRAD KELLY providing cool drums. At one point they all were working together at the now legendary vintage/current psychedelic poster shop and art gallery PSYCHEDELIC SOLUTION in NYCs’ Greenwich Village, where they were treated to meeting quite a few of the more elusive 60s era psychedelic pioneers and musicians.

They recorded the CD ‘Free Inside’ and made the scene all over New York. One of the first to make a workable cover of “Tomorrow Never Knows” (…possibly )! One of the ONLY to feature the Theremin! (…possibly ).

By the end of 1995 they had to find a replacement for Brad Kelly, who was moving outta NYC with a fambily…and recruited MIKE LINCOLN ( also borrowed from LIKE IT! ) for drums. They went to San Francisco and Berkeley and Los Angeles in 1997 for live gigs at many clubs including the Purple Onion in SF, local college campuses, and live radio appearances on several local stations.

A tour of Europe in ’97 cemented good overseas record sales, 20 cities in 21 daze, 5 countries…

Then a respite for a few years…

Getting together again with the second lineup, a new second CD was created: ‘DIVINE’ and the band played all over NYC again but then solidified their live appearances to almost exclusively a space operated by none other than GIORGIO GOMELSKY. A very illustrious cohort to say the least… The front door was painted red, hence “The Red Door”. There they could set the place up with all manner of psychedelic and oil projection light shows, run their own show, sound, bar ( w/mushroom tea! ), dancing, incense, and play as long as they liked, in a speakeasy atmosphere. Legendary nights.
